Why PermanentRedaction

Most “redaction” failures happen because the underlying text wasn’t actually removed. PermanentRedaction is built for deterministic, reviewable outcomes — so teams can confidently share and file final PDFs.

  • Delete selected text from text-based PDFs — not just cover it.
  • Export irreversible final PDFs (text-preserving or image-only).
  • Generate verification reports to support review and reduce mistakes.
Important: PermanentRedaction permanently removes text from text-based PDFs. Scanned/image-only PDFs are not supported.
Why teams choose deterministic redaction
Designed for professional workflows where mistakes are expensive.
Deterministic behavior — no AI interpretation or hallucinations.
Verification report helps reviewers validate redactions.
Repeatable rules (keyword + regex) with preview.
Tip: If your workflow requires “black boxes” only, many PDF editors can mask text — but masking is not the same as permanently deleting text.

How it works

A simple workflow designed for professional use: select exactly what must be removed, export an irreversible final PDF, and keep a verification report for internal review.

1) Upload
Upload a text-based PDF. We do not “interpret” content — the document’s text layer is what you see and redact.
2) Redact
Use precise keyword and regex rules (with preview) to target names, IDs, dates, or custom terms.
3) Export
Export a final PDF — text-preserving or image-only — where selected text is removed from the output.
4) Verify
Generate a verification report to support review and reduce mistakes before filing or sharing.

Why PermanentRedaction

Many tools “hide” content with overlays. Others rely on AI interpretation. PermanentRedaction is built for deterministic outcomes: you choose what is removed, and the export is an irreversible final PDF.

Permanent removal
Selected text is deleted from the exported PDF — not merely covered by a box.
Deterministic & reviewable
No “guessing” what is sensitive. Rules are explicit and results are consistent.
Verification report
Generate a report to support internal review and reduce the risk of leaks.

Common use cases

Built for teams who need repeatable redaction across multiple documents — with less risk than manual “cover-up” workflows.

Overlay masking isn’t removal
Masking can leave underlying text searchable, copyable, or extractable. PermanentRedaction removes selected text in the final export.
AI redaction is not deterministic
Interpretation can miss edge cases or over-redact. We use explicit rules you control and can review.
Text-preserving vs image-only exports
Choose a final PDF that preserves remaining text for accessibility/search, or export image-only for strict downstream handling.
Verification before distribution
Generate a verification report to support internal review and reduce leaks.
Repeatable standards across teams
Standardize redaction rules so outcomes are consistent across matters, departments, and staff.
Fast iteration on rules
Start with presets (SSN, email, phone, dates) and refine with your own terms as you review results.

FAQ1

How is this different from drawing black boxes in a PDF editor?
Many editors create a visual overlay. If the tool doesn’t actually remove the underlying text, it may still be extractable. PermanentRedaction is built around deleting selected text in the exported PDF.
Do you use AI to detect sensitive data?
No. PermanentRedaction is deterministic and rule-driven. You choose what to remove using keywords and regex, with a preview workflow.
Do you support scanned PDFs?
Not currently. PermanentRedaction requires a text layer. Scanned/image-only PDFs are not supported.
Do you provide legal advice or guarantee court acceptance?
No. We provide software. Always verify redactions and confirm local filing requirements.
